We can’t stop staring at these boys in glitter|
They sparkled and shined and were altogether perfect.
We’re talking about the 33 gaunt, men who slithered down Palomo Spain’s New York Fashion Week: Men’s runways like they were some kind of gender-bending aliens. They sauntered with absolutely sensuality in their outrageously outre clothing. But what was most striking was their beauty. The romantic looks on their pale faces that made an impact.
Some had deep, dark smudged eye shadow while others sported plum lipstick with bright pink cheeks. Others had scintillating highlighters along their cheekbones that made them seem nothing less than otherworldly. All of them works of art that you had to look at more than once to understand the full picture.
The makeup was the work of Marcelo Gutierrez, a makeup artist based out of New York City who was tasked at completing all 33 looks in under 3 hours.
“Every makeup look was unique to each boy’s personality, outfit and bone structure,” Marcelo explained to Very Good Light backstage. “It was about telling a story and creating a cast of characters, not a cast of empty mannequins.” While some guys had full, deep plum Chanel lipstick on, others had dark eye shadow mixed with a custom palette of Make Up Forever for an added pop. Oh, and “loads of mascara, too,” Marcelo said.
He said each was painted as if they were an actual work of art, one of the reasons he used his hands and fingers as the only tools to apply the makeup. Inspired by 20s glamour and New York rock and roll, Marcelo said that the entire show was shaped to “create the boy who was out too late seducing life itself and living to the fullest. [He’s] waking up with the remains of beautiful memories and smudged love.” If this is the dreamy world we’re seeing, we never want to wake up.
